Sailing Courses
Sail Excalibur is an officially recognised RYA Training Centre, and offers a full range of sailing courses, covering both practical and sailing theory. Our courses are designed to give you the knowledge and skills needed to enjoy sailing safely and competently, leading to internationally recognised RYA qualifications.

Practical Sailing Courses ( which we run with other See schools)
Coastal Skipper/Yachmaster Training - an advanced practical sailing course designed to prepare you for either the RYA Coastal Skipper or MCA/RYA Yachtmaster exam, depending on level of competence. These 5 day intensive courses are run by fully qualified intructors in small groups of upto 5 people, on well-equipped yachts on the South Coast.
Day Skipper Training - prepares you for the RYA Certificate of Competence, and similarly to our Yachtmaster and Coastal Skipper Training courses, involves around 5 days of training at sea, covering navigation, pilotage, seamanship and skippering a a level enabling safe cruising on known waters.
Competent Crew Training - the goal of this course is to acquaint its participants with the principles of Good Seamanship, crewing a yacht and steering one. These skills shall be acquired at the level of competent crewmember.

Shore-Based Theory Courses:
Navigation Workshops - a paricualry tricky area of sailing theory, we run navigation theory courses around the UK, tailored around the level of competence of our students. Our navigation courses can be offered in small groups or on a one-to-one basis, and cover passage planning, pilotage, tides, currents, wind and weather conditions, and are organised around you.
Coastal Skipper / Yachtmaster Theory - advanced course in navigation and meteorology for Coastal Skippers and Yachtmaster candidates. The minimum level of knowledge for this course is acquired during the Day Skipper Theory course.
RYA Day Skipper Theory - The course covers knowledge of charts, navigation, and meteorology and will prepare aspiring skippers with the required theorietical knowledge to make effective decisions onboard.
Specialised Training Courses:
VHF / SRC Short Range Certificate - can be organised on demand in almost any location (we've run training courses all over the UK, Poland and the Med!). This certificate is internationally recognised and is the required qualification for the operation of the short range VHF radios with DSC. Besides legal requirements, each skipper needs to know radio procedures when communicating with ports or in rescue operations.
First Aid - usually an integral part of our RYA training courses, this an esential course for skippers to ensure safe passage. The course is run by EFR qualifed instructors, usually in small or groups, but alos one-to-one, and can be organised on demand in any UK location.
